At least 10 people have been killed and 20 others injured in the attack at Istanbul’s Ataturk Airport, Turkey’s Justice Minister Bekir Bozdag told CNN. The two suicide bombers were also killed. In total two bombs exploded. One of them was located just outside the terminal on the pavement, the other was at the security gate at the entrance to the airport.

Two head-to-head polls released Sunday showed a resurgent Hillary Clinton taking a lead in the US presidential race, after a tumultuous month for Donald Trump, who has failed to rally confidence among voters or party leaders.
If the presidential election were held today, 51 percent of poll respondents said they would vote for Clinton, versus 39 percent for Trump, according to a Washington Post-ABC News poll.
It was conducted Monday through Thursday of last week among 836 registered voters and had a margin of error of four percentage points.

A Wall Street Journal/NBC News poll showed a slimmer lead for Clinton, 46 percent to Trump’s 41 percent. They were essentially tied, 39 percent for the Democrat Clinton and 38 percent for Republican Trump, when third-party candidates were included, results showed.aa

The Brexit nightmare & the looming winter of discontent – By Reuben Abati

What has the United Kingdom just done to itself, its people and the future of its youth? It is difficult to fully understand why a country in taking a decision about its future will decide on a false option that seems to negate long-term interests.

And this, just because a total of 17.4 million people out of over 61 million chose to vote against the United Kingdom’s continued membership of the EU. More than 50% of these pro-Brexit voters are actually between the age bracket: 50-70, thus an ageing class of voters has taken a decision to undermine the future of the younger generation. Pro-EU Prime Minister David Cameron said he was “courageous and optimistic” when in January 2014, he tried to justify the need for a referendum.

His words then: “I think the overwhelming majority of the British people say they want to be in Europe but they want some changes to that relationship and they would like to be given a say. It is not something that we should be frightened of. It’s something we should embrace.”  Cameron is now a study in political miscalculation and how over-confidence can make a political leader misread the people’s moods and expectations. He has been praised for his “courage” in quickly accepting the people’s verdict and for tendering his resignation, but I guess he won’t possibly be talking about courage. He must be full of regrets for presiding over the United Kingdom’s exit into a nightmare. Britain is better off remaining in the EU.

But on June 23, 2016, the people of Great Britain spoke and their verdict has been accepted as the status quo, except a miracle happens and the current petition by the pro-EU protesters results in a second referendum.  As things stand, the people have rejected continued membership of the European Union.

The implication is that the majority of the people believe that the United Kingdom is better off on its own. What is quite clear is that this British exit (Brexit) is more about the rise of xenophobia, bigotry and isolationism. It is not new. Britain has always looked backward and in-out in the course of its membership of the EU, oscillating between its commitment to a greater Europe and the need to

1. The attention of Theatre Command, Operation LAFIYA DOLE has been drawn to some issues in the online Sahara Reporters of 24 June 2016 with a story line on the allegation that the COAS and his wives own some properties in Dubai. The report among other vicious and smear campaign issues, impugned that some ‘concerned officers and soldiers in the North East’ allegedly wrote a petition on the state of affairs in the Operation LAFIYA DOLE. What a baseless, unfounded and wicked insinuation! It is for this reason that I call you today to clear issues as they affect Operation LAFIYA DOLE. British Prime Minister David Cameron Resigns

British prime minister David Cameron has announced his resignation after Britain voted to exit the European Union.
“The will of the British people is an instruction that must be delivered,” the prime minister said, his voice betraying his sadness.
His resignation will take effect in three months time. He hoped to 'steady the ship' before then but noted that he was not capable of leading Britain into the future.
He said, “I do not think it would be right for me to be the captain who steers the country to its next destination.”
He said his successor should trigger the formal process for Britain to leave the European Union.
"I think it's right that this new prime minister takes the decision about when to trigger Article 50," Cameron said.
"I would also reassure Brits living in European countries and European citizens living here that there will be no immediate changes in your circumstances," he said.
Flanked by his wife Samantha, Cameron said he had fought to retain Britain's membership of the EU "head, heart and soul -- I held nothing back".
But he added: "The British people have made a very clear decision to take a different path and as such, I think the country requires fresh leadership to take it in this direction."
Britons decided by 52 percent to 48 percent in favour of quitting the EU, a margin of more than one million votes, final results showed.

The court would normally have had nine members, making a tie less likely, but Justice Antonin

The only Business booming in Nigeria today is Arresting & Detaining – Ben Bruce

Senator Ben Murray-Bruce took to his Twitter page today to lament over the economic situation in Nigeria, saying that more attention is paid on anticorruption, while ongoing economic problem seems to be unnoticed. He cited the example of former President, Olusegun Obasanjo, who he said fought corruption, grew the economy with low oil price of $15 per barrel. Continue to read his tweets...

"I appreciate the anticorruption war, but I wish our media also carry headlines of economic progress instead of incessant arrests by DSS/EFCC. We are fixated on anticorruption and dont notice what's going on with our economy. Per @Bloomberg, In 1 week @AlikoDangote lost $3.7 billion.

The only business booming in Nigeria today is the business of arresting and detaining. I wouldn't mind if we are arresting economic decline!

President Obasanjo fought corruption, yet he also grew the economy. And he did this with oil at $15 per barrel. Low oil price is no excuse,"he said.

Police report reveals Michael Jackson's dark side

US popstar Michael Jackson. AFP PHOTO/Carl de Souza (Photo credit should read CARL DE SOUZA/AFP/Getty Images)

A newly surfaced police report related to a 2003 raid on Michael Jackson’s Neverland Ranch shows the late pop star’s penchant for pornography and attraction to children.
Jackson was acquitted in 2005 of child molestation following a 14-week trial, and the report published on Tuesday by the celebrity and gossip website Radar Online was related to evidence submitted in that case.
The report contains details about various books, magazines and documents seized at Jackson’s secluded California home in November 2003.
The police report states that though the documents were not considered illegal, “this type of material can be used as part of a ‘grooming’ process by which people (those seeking to molest children) are able to lower the inhibitions of their intended victims and facilitate the molestation of said victims.”
The Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Department said it had not publicly released the documents,

Pussyfication – By Charly Boy

Many men are all in hiding, running away from women, especially those carrying shopping list, invoice booklet or those who come as extra baggage with multiple choice problems. OMG Kai!!!!!

Dis Fela Sef!: He lives – By Reuben Abati

On the occasion of his 80th birthday, Benson Idonije, who is arguably Nigeria’s most informed analyst of jazz music and an enthusiastic promoter of popular culture and music has released for public review and consideration an absolutely well-informed biography of Fela, the Afro-beat music maestro. The book is a useful contribution in my opinion. But the first thing I noticed- signposted by the copy sent to me, is how indeed, this particular publication appears to be a victim of the emergent crises of publishing in Africa in dispossessed economies. The copy sent to me is copyrighted 2014; on the cover it is described as a preview edition, scheduled for “official release: first quarter 2015”, the review copy doesn’t even have an ISBN number, there is no index and the bibliography is wrongly presented.

After more than 29 years of assessing manuscripts and editing/reviewing books, I assume that I can conveniently imagine what the author, printers and local publishers of this book must have gone through, the same challenges other book writers publishing in sub-Saharan Africa face at the moment: looking for money, getting good editors, looking for publishers, and hoping that there will be readers. But we must be glad, and Benson Idonije deserves to be congratulated, on  his tenacity, in bringing out against all possible odds, a memoir as he correctly describes it, on Fela Anikulapo-Kuti, legend, maestro, counterculture hero, mystic, musician, philosopher, iconoclast, rebel, patriot and one of Africa’s most significant contributions to the world of art and music in the 20th century.
