N225,000 for judge’s father-in-law burial, not bribe, Tarfa, SAN tells court

Lagos Lawyer and Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Mr. Rickey Tarfa. yesterday, denied allegations by the Economic and Financial crimes Commission, EFCC that he bribed a Federal High court, lagos judge to the tune of 225,000, saying tthat the money was for the judge's father-in- law's burial.

At the resumed hearing in  the N2.5 billion fundamental Rights suit instituted by Tarfa, in which he is challenging his arrest and detention  by the EFCC, as well as the confiscation of his phones and car,he said through his lead counsel, Bolaji Ayorinde SAN that the said money, was for the burial of the judge's father -in-law, late Audu Garba Damasa.

In a 75 paragraph further Affidavit deposede to by John Odubela, head of chambers, he averred "that the applicant did not on the 7th of January , 2014 bribe Justice M.N Yunusa with the sum of N225,000 or any othe sum at all"

He averred that it was common knowledge in legal circles that the Judge lost his father in law , Alhaji Audi Damasa on December 28 , 2013, in Maiduguri, Borno state, and travelled there, to attend the funeral.

He argued that the suit before the court has nothing to do with the charge at the Lagos state High court, but the arrest of the applicant without reasonable ground of suspicion.

Breaking!!! Mexican woman with Zika virus gives birth to healthy child

A woman with a confirmed case of the Zika virus in the southern state of Chiapas gave birth to a “clinically healthy” baby boy, Mexico’s health ministry said.
The woman, from the town of Pijijiapan, delivered the six pound (2.8 kilo) boy in a hospital in the city of Tuxtla Gutierrez on Friday.
After an evaluation, the hospital’s pediatric center “confirmed that [the infant] is clinically healthy,” the health ministry said in a statement late Friday.
The woman is one of six known to have contracted Zika while pregnant.
Zika, which is spread by mosquitos, has been linked to microcephaly — a birth defect in which the infant is born with an abnormally small head. There is no cure for microcephaly and no vaccine against Zika.
The other five women “are in good health, they are receiving specialized continuous care and are undergoing periodic ultrasound tests,” the statement read.
Two of the women are beyond their 28th week of pregnancy, and several tests show no sign that they are carrying a fetus with microcephaly. The other three have still not reached the 28 week mark, the statement read.
Of the 80 registered Zika cases in Mexico, 45 are in the southern state of Chiapas, including three of the pregnant women.
On average Mexico, population 122 million, has 600 cases of microcephaly per year. That figure has not change since the Zika virus outbreak in Latin America, officials said.
Brazil said this week that it has registered 508 cases of microcephaly since October, a huge increase on the average annual number of 150.

Tracy Morgan Says Watching Daughter Maven Take Her First Steps Inspired Him to Get Out of Wheelchair After Deadly Crash

Tracy Morgan says he survived and recovered from the deadly bus crash because of his "star players": his wife and daughter

The 47-year-old comedian stopped by the The Tonight Show on Monday, and told host Jimmy Fallon about how his 2-year-old daughter Maven gave him the strength he needed to recover.

"That's the reason why I survived, for her, for her and my wife. They my star players," he said.

"She said 'dada' when I came home," Morgan revealed.
"I remember, I was in that wheelchair and I seen her. She was 14 months and I seen her take her first steps. And it inspired me to get out the wheelchair and take my first steps."
He and his toddler had even more in common, though, he said.

"One day I saw her running down the hall in a doo-doo pamper [diaper] and I started running down the hall wearing my doo-doo pamper," he joked. "I was still pooping on myself … I liked pooping on myself."

The heartwarming comments come more than a year after the deadly 2014 crash that left one dead and Morgan severely injured and in a coma.

73-Year-Old World Champion Weight Lifter: 'I'm in the Best Shape I've Ever Been in'

Barbara Garmon began working out with her personal trainer Chad Landers when she was in her early 50s – and even though she's now in her 70s she hasn't stopped since.

"I love being strong," Garmon tells PEOPLE. "I love feeling powerful. I love the fact that I'm 73, and most women my age have trouble walking up steps. If there's an elevator and steps, I always take the steps because I can do it. I feel terrific."

Her dedication to fitness has seen her through some very challenging times. Garmon shattered her left arm and wrist after a gardening accident and was told she'd never have use of her hand again; she survived breast cancer and the chemo and surgery that went with it; and she spent time recovering after donating a kidney to her sister.

"I was weak and I was frail," says the business owner of her time spent in recovery. "But I'm in the best shape I've ever been in right now."
Garmon decided to enter the world of competitive weight lifting at the recommendation of Landers.

"I looked up the records and I realized no one had competed in her age group and weight class [in California], so I just threw it out there," Landers tells PEOPLE.

Olugbo-in-Council debunks Oba Akinruntan's EFCC arrest...

There were reports online yesterday that the traditional ruler had been arrested for money laundering but his chiefs say this is not true. Read the press statement below...
The Olugbo-in-Council which is the Highest Traditional Body of Ugboland in Ilaje Local Government Area of Ondo State have debunked rumours of the arrest of the Olugbo of Ugboland, His Imperial Majesty, Oba (Dr.) Frederick E. Obateru Akinruntan, CON.
Speaking through the Secretary of the Kingdom, Chief I. A. Demehim, the Olugbo-in-Council, asserts that the reported arrest of the Highly Revered Monarch, who is the Paramount Ruler and Prescribed Authority of Ugboland as well as Founder of the Multi-Billion Dollar Obat Group is completely false. According to High Chief Isaiah Demehin, “the news report by Sahara Reporters which is also being peddled by several soft sell bloggers that Kabiyesi was arrested by EFCC for Money Laundering is not only laughable and false but also a sacrilege to the traditional stool of our land.

The Olugbo is domiciled in Ugbo, and Kabiyesi was dutifully attending to traditional matters as well as the needs of his subjects on Friday” Furthermore, Chief Isaiah Demehin stated that it is pitiful that such a blog as widespread as Sahara Reporters would tell a lie against a Monarch while throwing away all ethics which places the onus on them to confirm from the Palace of the Olugbo which is always filled with throngs of people and activities which the Olugbo presides upon by himself or cross check their write up with the EFCC as a mark of professionalism.

In conclusion, he stated, “I wish to advise our journalists to always cross-check their facts and stop embarrassing innocent persons. It is especially sad that any journalist would embark on a path to destroy the great image of Nigeria’s Doyen of Industry who has contributed immensely to the socio economic and human capital development of Nigeria. Our Monarch is a great father and would not join issues with any media house, however, I think it is dutiful of any journalist that is sound to learn how to accord honour to revered traditional stools, and avoid being used by disgruntled persons to tarnish the images of global icons as the Billionaire Monarch whose business conglomerates have transformed Ugboland and Nigeria as a whole.
