Niger Delta Avengers is the name of a new group of militants in the Niger Delta who claim to be different from the former agitators and militants who operated between 2006 and 2009, largely under the umbrella of the Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta (MEND). The title of this group may well serve as the thematic and definitive umbrella for the resurgence of low-level insurgency in the Niger Delta, for in the last month alone, more groups have joined the NDA to wage war against oil installations, the Buhari government, and the Nigerian state. These include the Isoko Liberation Movement and the Red Egbesu Water Lions. The groups are working in concert with the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) led by detained Nnamdi Kanu.

Fellow Nigerians, let me start today’s epistle by saying time flies indeed. Over a year ago, the dream of Major General Muhammadu Buhari to return to power, after being toppled in a military coup by Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida and company, was eventually realised after a record fourth attempt. History would record this monumental feat as one of the biggest miracles of our time. It was a testimony to the power of resilience and tenacity.

Not many people would ever have a second chance in life. In fact, a second chance is usually a rare and divine opportunity to correct past mistakes, make amends, atone for sins of omission and commission; and move forward to greater glory. In recent time, only two former Generals have been so favoured. The first Nigerian to return to power in 1999 was General Olusegun Matthew Aremu Okikiolakan Obasanjo. Obasanjo had left power in 1979, in a most controversial manner, after handing over power hurriedly to the newly elected President Shehu Usman Aliyu Shagari. That election would remain one of the most controversial in Africa’s most populous nation but Obasanjo was determined to quit power and he got a standing ovation from the global community.

Celtic names Brendan Rodgers as new manager

Scottish champions Celtic on Friday named former Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers as their new manager on a 12-month rolling contract.

Rodgers, 43, replaces Ronny Deila who stepped down at the end of a two-year spell which brought in two league titles and a League Cup crown but just frustration in Europe.

“Celtic Football Club is delighted today to announce Brendan Rodgers as the new Celtic manager. Brendan has agreed a 12-month rolling contract with the club,” said a Celtic statement.

Arrest militancy in the Niger Delta, Buhari directs CNS

Chinese Boy throws Dagger into Schoolmates Head over minor argument

A 13-year-old school boy has accidentally thrown a dagger at the head of his schoolmate, leaving her to die.  The 12-year-old nicknamed Lin was leaving a park in Dongguan, in China, with her friends on May 16 when the boy threw the six inches blade in the direction of the group which stuck in the back of her head.

Breaking!!! Another Chibok girl rescued

Another Chibok school girl has been reportedly rescued from Sambisa forest, making her the second in recent times. The girl identified as, Serah Luka, a daughter of Pastor Luka was released on Thursday.

The army spokesman, Colonel Sani Usman in the statement released early Friday morning, he identified the girl while also explaining the circumstances that led to her rescue.

Pistorius set to be released from jail October 20

Oscar Pistorius, the double-amputee Olympic runner who shot his girlfriend, Reeva Steenkamp, to death on Valentine’s Day 2013, can leave prison and move to house arrest next week, South Africa’s Department of Corrections said yesterday.

A parole board at the prison where Pistorius has served nearly a year of his five-year sentence for manslaughter made the decision. It came after an initial ruling to release the athlete in August was canceled at the last minute after intervention by the justice minister.
