Gov.Dickson’s sister rescued after 2 months in kidnappers’ den

Nancy Dickson, younger sister of Gov. Seriake Dickson of Bayelsa, has been rescued after spending over two months in the hands of kidnappers.
A statement issued on Monday by the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Mr Daniel Iworiso-Markson, said the 26-year-old victim was rescued on Sunday evening from her abductors without any payment of ransom.
“Some of the kidnappers took to their heels, while others were apprehended following a tip-off on their hideouts.
“The kidnappers were rattled and overwhelmed to forcefully surrender their victim, following intense pressure mounted by the security agencies to track them down,“it said.
The statement also said that Dickson called on the people of the state not to succumb to the demands of ransom made by kidnappers.
It said that plans were underway to amend the Bayelsa State Secret Cult, Kidnapping and other Related Offences Prohibition Bill 2012 to prescribe punishment for payment of ransom in the state.
It stressed that the amended bill when passed into law, would go a long way in ending incidence of kidnapping in the state.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalls that Nancy was abducted on Dec. 19, 2015 from her shop in Yenagoa.

‘Ijebu, Igbo are Jews from Israel’ - Dr. Fatai Ayisa Olasupo

who is a senior lecturer at the Department of Local Government Studies, Faculty of Administration, Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ife in Osun State, wrote a book on the claims of certain African tribes to the Jewish race.
The book entitled Black African Jews has been translated into six international languages. He told The Guardian that he was inspired to undertake an extensive research on Awujale of Ijebu Ode and the Igbo speaking people who, at different times, claimed to have migrated from Israel.
‘‘In 2006, Awujale was marking his 70th birthday and he granted an interview to The News Magazine, in which he said that the Ijebu are Jews, and that it is not only the Ijebu who are Jews, but that we have some Ijebu-Ibo that are Jews. We have Itsekiri people who are Jews. There are some people in Benue too who are Jews; even, among the Kanuri.
‘‘Since then (2006), I have started gathering data on what he said, and I have quoted him verbatim on some occasions. Most of the data I gathered were Internet-based.
‘‘In 2012, to be precise, I decided to write the story about the fact that the Ijebu are Jews and very importantly also that, Queen Sheba has her burial site in Oke-Eri in Ijebu. So, I decided to write a paper on it. The first paper I wrote was entitled: “The role of Arabia and Western Civilisation in the Extinction of African Traditional Religion: South Africa, Senegal and Nigeria as a case study.” I got it published in a Canadian journal: OIDA International Journal of Sustainable Development.
“Another material about Bilikisu Sungbo that I got which I scanned is also in the journal. I got it from The Nation. You can see the title: ‘Black African Jews, the Nigerian Question and the lost Ten Tribes of
Israel: A comparison of Igbo and Yoruba claims to Jewish and Judaic Traditions.’
‘‘You will recall that during the Civil War, the Igbo were claiming that they were Jews. There are enough materials about this on the net. In all the claims people have been making, I now have a prominent person and foremost traditional ruler in the person of the Awujale of Ijebuland claiming that they are from the Jews. And the entire Yoruba nation believes we are from Mecca through Egypt, down. But Awujale is insisting that the Ijebu are from the Jews. I got everything documented along with my other findings.
“After about a year, I just got a mail from a Jewish lady or woman called Elena Djima. It was entitled: ‘Publishing a book for the international audience and beyond’. She was seeking permission from me to allow them publish the material in a form of a book. Initially, I did not give it recognition, but later I gave it a second thought. Then I decided to respond.
“I didn’t solicit Elena’s permission in the first place. She just promised that if the book is published, the Jews, anywhere they may be in the world, would read it. She said the best selling bookshops all over the world would get this book. To quote her, she said, ‘This is an outstanding book, and all world leaders would read about it.’ And in fact, it is true. The book is entitled: Black African Jews written by me. If you google it, it will take you to the net and you will see the number of countries that have adopted it. It has been translated into French, Denmark, German, Swedish and virtually all the European countries, apart from English Language. Since August last year, it has been there.
‘‘A British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) report on the net also has ‘Awujale linked with Sheba?’ Part of my argument is that if the burial site was not that of Ooni not that of Alaafin, then whose is it? If a paramount ruler in Ijebu could say that, of what benefit would it be for anyone to deny his culture or lie about it? When Alaafin gave me the ‘History of Yoruba’ written by Samuel Johnson, I saw that there was, at a certain time, a female Alaafin. There was also a female Ooni in history.
“Regarding the Oke-Eri issue, there was a rampart that covers about 160 kilometres in Ijebu area, very close to Ibadan here and it extended to Benin. It must be a prominent king that must have built that kind of rampart or rather, protective wall at that time. A history from my research also showed that this woman, Queen Sheba, came to Oke-Eri. That she was very light in complexion, and that when she came, she arrived with a retinue of about 200 people. This is talking of about five centuries ago. This retinue of people or slaves that followed her to that place must have inter-married. You know the period of King Solomon, more than five thousand years ago.
“I just compared the claims of the Igbo to being Jews to that of Yoruba. Even in Egypt, there are a sizeable number of Jews there. In Israel, there are Arabs there. In Iran which is an Islamic Republic, there are Jews there. When there was holy war in Mecca that led to the massive movement of people from that area, it is not possible that only Arabs would be the ones to be moving away. The holy war was mainly targeted at the Jews, who also must be moving away with the Arabs at the same time. If Yoruba are claiming that Lamurudu came from Mecca‎, some of the Jews also would have moved with them to the West African side. So, if the Ijebu, as represented by such a prominent personality like the Awujale, are saying that they have a descent from the Jews, who will discountenance that? And nobody among the Ijebu has ever controverted what the Awujale said, unlike the Igbo who have contradicted one another on their own claim.”
According to Olasupo, “Awujale was categorical that some Igbo found among the Itsekiri and other regions left from Ijebu. And you know that the Awujale said this when the late Ooni was alive, so also other paramount monarchs,‎ yet nobody doubted or controverted him. There has also been sufficient evidence to prove this. An Australian came to Oke Eri to conduct the interview; BBC also conducted the interview with people around there. And to crown it all, there is no any country in the world today that has laid claim to where Queen Sheba was buried, apart from the claim by Awujale of Ijebuland. So, if any other country has another burial site of Sheba, it should bring it for the world to see. It is true that she was born in Ethiopia, but in Ethiopia, they did not know where she was buried.”
When The Guardian asked him about what the benefits of his books and findings could be to the Ijebu and Nigeria as a whole, Olasupo said: “It is going to bring enormous economic benefits in the area of
tourism. This Queen has her story narrated in the Quoran, in the Bible. So, Oke Eri is going to be a kind of Mecca or Jerusalem. It could become a United Nations Heritage site like the Osun of Osogbo.
The Christians would be going there; the Muslims would be going there; the Jews would be going there because she combined all the three religions. Once the UN approves it as an heritage site, the whole world will be coming there for tourism.”

Breaking- Court sends ex-minister Abba Moro to prison

The immediate past minister of the interior, Abba Moro, has been remanded in prison custody by an Abuja High Court on Monday over his alleged role in the N676 million immigration recruitment scam of 2014.
According to The Guardian, Moro was arraigned by the Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC) before Justice Anwuli Chikere on an 11-count charge.
Also standing trial were Anastasia Daniel-Nwobia, who was the permanent secretary of the ministry at the time, a deputy director in the ministry, F. O Alayebami, one Mahmood Ahmadu, who is at large, and Drexel Tech Nigeria Ltd, the company that handled the recruitment exercise.
The judge sent Moro and Alayebami to jail after the lead prosecuting counsel, Mr. Aliyu Yusuf, applied that the accused persons be remanded in prison. Daniel-Nwobia was, however, granted administrative bail
The EFCC alleged that the accused defrauded 675, 675 applicants of N675,675,000 during the botched immigration recruitment. Each of the 676,675 graduate applicants was charged N1,000 each.
The EFCC also alleged that Moro and his co-accused flouted the Public Procurement Act, No. 65 of 2007 by awarding the organisation of the recruitment test to Drexel Tech, a company which the anti-graft agency said had no prior advertisement and no needs assessment and procurement plan was carried out before the contract was awarded.

APC senatorial election candidate Onjeh, to challenge David Mark’s victory

FOLLOWING the declaration of former Senate President, David Mark as winner of last Saturday’s re-run election in Benue South senatorial district, his closest competitor in the election, Daniel Onjeh of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has vowed to challenge his victory at the tribunal.
Onjeh, who stated this while speaking with The Guardian on INEC’s declaration of Mark as winner of the election said even as the election was free and fair in most places of the zone, he and his supporters totally reject the outcome, maintaining that it was not the true reflection of what transpired at the poll.
“I and my party supporters are consulting and after meeting with party leaders we will approach the tribunal, which we believe will declare me winner of the election.
“Senator Mark took the opportunity to rig the election when results from some polling units started filtering in and they realised that I was winning in most of them. Then they dumped the voting process and embark on massive thumb printing of ballot papers,” Onjeh alleged.
The APC candidate who said he knows he won the election added that the votes margin between him and that of Mark is very slim, insisting that he will prove his case at the tribunal.

British Ebola survivor nurse hospitalised for third time

A British nurse who was twice successfully treated after contracting Ebola in Sierra Leone in 2014 was on Tuesday admitted to hospital for a third time “for further investigations,” the health service said.
Pauline Cafferkey, who voluntarily went to the west African country to treat Ebola patients, was being treated at Glasgow’s Queen Elizabeth University Hospital, according to a spokesman from NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde.
“Under routine monitoring by the Infectious Diseases Unit, Pauline Cafferkey has been admitted to hospital for further investigations,” he said.
Cafferkey was treated twice at an isolation unit at London’s Royal Free Hospital, Britain’s only isolation ward for the lethal disease, after suffering an “unusual complication” of her first infection.
Cafferkey was diagnosed with Ebola in December 2014 after returning to Glasgow from Sierra Leone.
She suffered a relapse in October 2015, when the virus caused her to become critically ill with meningitis before she made a full recovery.
“It is very sad to hear that Ms Cafferkey has once again been admitted to hospital,” said Derek Gatherer from Lancaster University.
“The meningitis that Ms Cafferkey suffered from at the end of last year is one of the most serious complications of all, as it can be life-threatening.
“She was unlucky enough to be one of only a handful of patients in whom it has been seen,” he added.
The deadliest-ever Ebola outbreak since the virus was identified in central Africa in 1976 has killed 11,316 of the 28,639 people infected since December of 2013, according to the latest WHO figures.
Nearly all the victims have been in Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone.

Unfolding ....PDP’s board of trustees rejects Sheriff as chairman

DESPITE opposition from some quarters, the National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Ali Modu Sheriff, yesterday declared that he would not resign his new appointment.
The Board of Trustees of the PDP rose from a meeting in Abuja yesterday night stating that it had rejected Sheriff as national chairman of the party.
Addressing journalists shortly after the meeting, the BoT led by its acting chairman, Senator Walid Jibril, ‎said in a paragraph statement: “The Board of Trustees of the PDP is of the view that Ali Modu Sheriff is not suitable as national chairman of the PDP. We have proposed viable solutions which will be deliberated upon tonight. We are going for another meeting.”

In attendance at the meeting were former Information Minister, Prof. Jerry Gana, erstwhile Senate President Adolphus Wabara, ex- Deputy Senate President, Ibrahim Mantua, former PDP national chairman, Senator Ahmadu Alli, Inna Ciroma, among others.
Sheriff said that he did not know when his tenure as chairman would end. He noted that he would only reveal his agenda when he had been briefed on the status of the party including its finances‎.
“I will unfold the agenda of this party to everybody as soon as other members of the National Working Committee, particularly the National Treasurer and the National Secretary brief me fully on the status of the party. I will let Nigerians know where we are going and what we intend to do,” he said.
And in Ekiti State, Governor Ayodele Fayose, Sheriff has found a strong ally, with the former saying: “His emergence at this time is the best thing in the present circumstance. Those who are aggrieved should sheathe their sword and deploy their time and resources into fighting the All Progressives Congress (APC) instead of their own party.”
Addressing a press conference after a brief handover where he formally took over the affairs of the party, Sheriff also denied links with the Boko Haram terrorist group.
Answering questions on the inadequacy of time to carry out the task of rebuilding the party, the new PDP boss explained that his tenure was not yet known to him, ‎adding that only PDP leaders would decide on that later.
“I took over this party today. I am here as a national chairman of this party by the grace of all the National Executive Committee (NEC) members of the party. I am here to rebuild the party.
“What time we need to do this job will be determined by the leaders and owners of the party when they sit down collectively to discuss. For me, taking over office today, I cannot tell you when I am leaving. I will only tell you when the party leaders sit down and see what is the immediate time to do this job. If they decide, I am ready for it.”

Sheriff who expressed dismay over calls for his resignation by a former governor of defunct Gongola State, Amb. Wilberforce Juta, stated that having contested the PDP chairmanship election with him and lost, Juta had no moral right to ask for his resignation.
“I saw the person who was reading the press statement, Ambassador Wilberforce Juta. He submitted himself to the National Working Committee of this party, aspiring to be a chairman. Wakil that you saw on the television also submitted himself to the Working Committee to be appointed chairman and votes had been cast.
“The man that was reading the press statement got one vote and he’s asking me to resign. I will not resign.
“The leadership of this party, in their wisdom asked me to lead. If the NEC of this party collectively asks me to leave, I will leave, but not somebody who contested an election and got one vote.
“I think if there is morality, he should not even go on television. In this country, people are allowed to say what they want. You want something, you got into the party, the party has submitted your name. In the midst of everybody, you got one vote and you go outside and ask the chairman to resign. My brother, where is the credibility? Where is the justice? I would have listened to him better if he did not aspire to be one.
“Therefore, I do not plan to resign, I will not resign.
I will reposition this party and take it to election within a time frame decided by the leaders to conduct a credible, effective congress that will stand the test of time.”
On his alleged links with Boko Haram, Sheriff said no authority in this country had ever accused him of having links with the terrorist group. Visibly annoyed over reports linking him with the terrorist group, Sheriff specifically declared that former Aviation Minister, Femi Fani-Kayode, “would not go scot-free” for allegedly creating the impression to the public that he, Sheriff sponsored Boko Haram.
He also declared that he never regretted leaving the All Progressives Congress (APC) which he said he played a significant role in forming.
However, Sheriff begged all aggrieved party members to drop their grievances and join him in the task of rebuilding the party.
In a statement by his Special Assistant on Public Communications and New Media, Lere Olayinka, Fayose said: “It is regrettable that those who abandoned the PDP to its fate when it lost power and did not say a word to defend the party have now found their voices against a decision taken in accordance with the party’s constitution.”
The governor who reiterated his commitment to the party, said: “With my antecedent as someone who has always defended the party, I can’t be linked with any decision that will not be in the best interest of the party. I therefore call on all my admirers and believers in my dogged fight for the revival of our party to support our new chairman, whom I believe has the required capacity to reposition the party.”
He described those linking the new chairman to the Boko Haram insurgents as mischief makers, asking: “Has Ali Modu Sheriff been tried and convicted by any court for sponsoring Boko Haram? Has he been tried for involvement in Boko Haram activities?
“Even APC Senator Ali Ndume is being tried for allegedly making contacts with the Boko Haram sect 73 times and he is still the Senate Leader.
“Also, Ali Modu Sheriff and their ‘Saint Buhari’ are in-laws courtesy of Sheriff’’s son’s marriage to Buhari’s daughter and no one has called the President a Boko Haram sponsor by association. Or are they also saying President Buhari could have allowed his own daughter to marry the son of Ali Modu Sheriff if he was indeed a Boko Haram sponsor?”
While describing Sheriff ’s emergence as constitutional, Fayose said stakeholders like the NWC , governors, senators, House of Representatives members, and Board of Trustees members took part in the processes that produced the new chairman.
He said the party could only be repositioned when decisions of party leaders were respected just as he called on those aggrieved with the emergence of the new chairman to be mindful of the supremacy of the party over and above other interests.
The governor reminded members and supporters of the PDP that “the party is in a peculiar situation and we need people who can stand up against these devourers of our collective heritage. I can say confidently that Senator Ali Modu Sheriff is such a person and in the collective interest of our party, we should all rally round him.”

PDP chair- Ali-Modu Sheriff, insists he has nothing to do with Boko Haram

Embattled Chairman of PDP, Ali Modu Sheriff, says he will not be resigning from his position as the party's Chairman despite the public outcry by some members since his appointment. Sheriff stated this at the PDP secretariat in Abuja shortly after he officially took over the party leadership.
“I won’t resigned because the leadership of the party, in their wisdom, chose me to lead the PDP for the purpose of rebuilding and repositioning the party at this critical period,”he said.

Reacting to allegations that he is a sponsor of the Insurgency group, Boko Haram, Sheriff said
“Boko Haram killed my own brother. They killed members of my family, so why should I sponsor people to kill my own brother, my own family. I am not a fanatic. I love to enjoy my life. Boko Haram are criminals who live in the bush and eat once a day. I believe their sponsors will be caught at the end of the day. I have nothing to do with Boko Haram,” he said. He singled out a former Aviation Minister, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode, among the people linking him with the terror sect, saying “this time around, people like Fani-Kayode will not go scot free.”
