A little boy of two years, shot and killed himself after taking a gun from his mother's purse on the kitchen counter when she wasn't watching, Indianapolis police say. Officers found the child with a single gunshot wound to the chest when they arrived at the home around 9pm Wednesday.
The little boy was rushed to Riley Hospital for Children at IU Health where he was later pronounced dead by medical staff, Fox 59 reported
According to reports, as at the time of the shooting, only the mother and child were the people at home .
Police have not released the identities of the mother and child.
Police said in a news release Thursday that the mother is cooperating with detectives who questioned her before she was released.
