Fulani Herdsmen Kill Monarch, Burn Houses, Churches in Kaduna

Some Fulani herdsmen have reportedly struck a village in Southern Kaduna State at the early hours of Monday. They attacked the home of the Monarch of Fadan Karshi located in Sanga Local Government Area of the state.

The Monarch, Bala Madaki Hakimi along with his grandson was shot with an automatic rifle, before being butchered using a cutlass. Bala was aged in his early 50s.

Fadan Karshi in Sanga LGA is largely populated by Gwandara speaking Christians. The community had been the victims of repeated Fulani militia attacks in the past. Last year in June 2015, the same town was attacked. About 35 people were slaughtered using machetes.

The rampaging Fulani militia also destroyed farms and property belonging to the villagers. Most of the homes and churches were burnt and demolished.

The surviving villagers escaped the village abandoning their ancestral homes. Many of the families returned months later to reclaim their homes.
